This is the First Post on my New Teachers Blog!
Hey everyone in the digital world! This is my teachin blog. I’m going to upload funny pictures, comments about my day, and highlights of my life in general. Maybe I should first introduce myself, good idea huh? Well, since you forced me, My name is Beckie Roth and I’m a media Lab Coordinator for Home, Inc. located in the beautiful city of Boston, well Somerville to be more specific.
I’m very new to teaching, actually today was my first day of full classes and my first time teaching! I learned a lot in just a day and I’m starting to think that maybe being thrown into the sharks (students) is the best way to learn how to become a better teacher. I teach at two Somerville city schools, 12 classes a week. Sounds like a lot of kids to keep in line, organize all their projects, and remember all their names... well it is. Today for my first class, we all caught up on the project that all of my classes are working on, The Six Word Story. If you’re not sure what that is, click on the link and it will give you a better idea. In short though, it is what it sounds like, a story that is told using only six words. However, in my class, the students tell the story using six words but also are allowed to add an image to better illustrate their ideas. Its a challenge but that’s the whole point. Can you really tell a story using only six words and having it make sense? Above is an example of a students work in one of my classes. I really like this one, so colorful and expressive.
So in short, I’m going to keep this blog updated everyday and post my experiences and my daily activities. On Monday Novemeber 9th, I caught up WH8A, WH7A, AND LP8B! with the six word project and any students who finished I had them help others post their projects. Next class (once a week) they should all hopefully be done posting their projects in the above mentioned classes!
